One million foreclosures filed in 2010 in the United States, the article I read said this morning. It said that 1 of 45 homes had received a foreclosure filing in 2010.
What the article didn't say was that 44 of 45 did not receive a foreclosure filing. It didn't say that 97.8% of homes did not have a foreclosure filing against them.
I don't know about most of you, but I am sick and tired of having our headlines seeming to say that the sky is falling and yet I drive through my town and I do not have anything falling down on me or my car.
In Boise, Idaho and surrounding cities we actually have some cities that have had positive growth in value over the last four-five months. Imagine real estate is a local activity and is changed by the laws of supply and demand.
For those of you that watch the Today Show in the morning, if Al Roker, the weather person, said it was 70 degrees and sunny across the whole of the United States would you believe him? Yet, we read an article in the paper that states 1 in 45 homes received a foreclosure filing and we are all ready to walk away from our homes and lose everything.
I am calling for everyone to think through these headlines and decide is it true? Is it true for my family?
Let's make a grass roots level effort to correct poor jounalism with facts from our cities. Yes, there are areas where the economy has hit harder than here in Boise, Idaho, but even in those areas, it is a good time to buy homes. Many people who lost homes still need a place to live and those who can afford to buy today will have good tenants who are used to living in nicer homes and will probably take care of the rental.
We live in the greatest country in the world and I have been overseas and I am never happier than when I get back to the good ol' U.S.A. Thanks to our troops, police and fire departments for making this a safe place to live.
